Dream role leading PR and influencer strategy for Sydney and NSW destinations and events Use your strategic capabilities to drive results and make NSW the top visitor economy in the Asia Pacific by 2030 Ongoing Senior Executive Band 1 role (total remuneration package between $221,106 - $244,160) Based in Sydney (The Rocks) Destination NSW (DNSW) is the champion and voice for the visitor economy within the NSW Government.
Spearheading a whole-of-government approach to visitor economy growth, Destination NSW influences and shapes the visitor economy through strategic research, policy and thought leadership,
stakeholder engagement and consultation, commercial partnerships and investment in visitor experiences, business support, marketing and events.
About the role
This role is a senior leader within the organisation with full accountability for developing and managing the implementation of DNSW's PR, earned media and influencer activity to increase awareness and appeal of Sydney and NSW destinations and events on a global scale.
Responsible for providing strategic counsel to the Leadership and Executive teams on key matters and opportunities, this role leads a dedicated team to design and execute proactive PR initiatives, which increase positive destination coverage and share of voice, ultimately driving conversion among priority target audiences.
The role works in close collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure that all activity supports organisational objectives and priorities, and offers a compelling narrative with strong news value to highlight the unique offerings of Sydney and NSW.
About You
We are seeking an experienced professional with a proven track record in consumer PR, including influencer campaigns and owned channel management, particularly within the travel, tourism, and lifestyle sector.
You will have:
Proven Experience and Industry knowledge: Extensive experience developing and executing PR and earned media strategies for global brands and large-scale consumer events.
Ideally, a deep understanding of the travel and tourism landscape, both domestically and internationally, with strong and diverse stakeholder relationships, including media, influencers, airlines, and tourism operators.
Communication Skills: Superior verbal and written communication skills,
capable of influencing and negotiating with a range of senior stakeholders to maximise business outcomes.
Media Relations and Issues Management: Proven experience in the execution of integrated PR campaigns and earned media strategies.
A wide network of media contacts and experience in identifying unique opportunities to create media moments to achieve media and social coverage in Australia and overseas, including expertise in media, issues, and crisis management.
Leadership, Collaboration and Stakeholder Management: Successfully created and led high-performing teams, procured agencies, and managed significant budgets.
Skilled relationship builder with a proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional internal teams and external partners.
Content Production:
Experience developing and managing the PR for major events, promotions, and media-ready content suitable for a range of PR activity.
Essential Requirements: Tertiary qualifications in Communications or a similar discipline and minimum 10-12 years' experience in a senior leadership position in consumer PR/communications within a large and complex organisation.
