About the Role
As a Report & Dashboard Designer at RDC, you will be responsible for designing both standalone reports and integrated dashboards that deliver critical business insights. Your role will blend report design expertise with dashboard development skills,
creating visual data representations that serve multiple business functions. With 5+ years of experience in portal dashboard design, you’ll be expected to:
- Leverage strong JavaScript skills to build responsive and dynamic dashboard components, ensuring a smooth and interactive user experience.
- Apply best practices in UI design and frontend development to create user-centric interfaces that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
- Ensure scalability and performance optimization in dashboards, utilizing JavaScript data visualization library (e.g. eCharts.js, D3.js), and modern JavaScript frameworks (such as React or Angular).
- Use Jinja templates for customizable elements within dashboards, enhancing flexibility and adaptability to different data visualization needs.
- Collaborate with UX designers and product owners to align on design specifications, ensuring that dashboards and reports meet the needs of both end users and stakeholders.
- Maintain a focus on cross-browser compatibility and mobile-responsive designs, ensuring dashboards work seamlessly across devices and platforms.
Here's what a typical day might look like...
Team Stand-Up:
Start your day by participating in an agile stand-up, collaborating with teams across product, sales, and customer support to discuss the progress and challenges of current reports and dashboards.
Design & Build:
Design integrated portal dashboards that provide real-time insights, using JavaScript and Jinja templates for custom features and functionality. Additionally,
create visually compelling and user-friendly standalone reports
Data Integration:
Collaborate with data engineers to ensure seamless data integration for both reports and dashboards. You’ll work with data pipelines or ETL processes, ensuring that data flows correctly into your designs for real-time or scheduled reporting.
Collaboration & Refinement:
Work closely with internal stakeholders, including sales and customer support teams, to gather requirements and refine report and dashboard outputs based on feedback. You'll participate in agile ceremonies and help clarify user stories and report/dashboard requirements.
Learning & Continuous Improvement:
Stay updated on the latest reporting and dashboard design trends,
focusing on enhancing both the functionality and the user experience (UX). You’ll help drive the team’s continuous improvement by adopting the best practices in data visualization and user-centric design.
Your Skills & Experience
You must have:
- 5+ years of proven experience in portal dashboard design and development, creating interactive and dynamic dashboards that deliver real-time insights to business users.
- Strong JavaScript proficiency, including knowledge of modern frameworks like React, Angular, allowing you to create high-performance, scalable dashboards.
- Experience with Jinja templates or similar templating engines for building customizable dashboard features.
- A solid understanding of UI/UX design principles and the ability to create intuitive,
user-friendly interfaces that meet both aesthetic and functional requirements.
- Frontend development experience and responsive design to ensure dashboards are mobile-friendly and work seamlessly across different browsers and devices.
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms, along with an understanding of how to integrate data into these platforms effectively.
- Familiarity with data pipelines or ETL processes to ensure accurate and timely data is available for reports and dashboards.
- Excellent communication skills to work with cross-functional teams and translate business requirements into technical designs for reports and dashboards.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues and optimize performance for dashboards.
You ideally have:
- Experience in cloud-based environments, using platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP to manage, deploy, and scale dashboards.
- Knowledge of SQL and database design concepts to ensure efficient data handling and integration.
- Experience with API integration for real-time data fetching and interactive dashboard elements.
- A background in agile development methodologies, working within fast-paced, iterative environments with cross-functional teams.
- Understanding of UX/UI best practices and experience working with design tools like Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD.
