We currently have an exciting full-time leadership opportunity for a Portfolio Manager to join our Digital,
Data & Cyber (DDC) team. The location of the role is flexible and can be based either in Melbourne, Sydney or Adelaide. Reporting to the Head of DDC (Digital, Data and Cyber) – Defence Delivery, you will be responsible for taking Business Led technology roadmaps and translating these into a portfolio of projects for the Defence Delivery Business. Partnering with the Business, your drive and ability to have strategic conversations with Business stakeholders will be key to establishing a Defence Delivery business governance to prioritize the portfolio, manage challenges around securing funding, resourcing, project interdependencies and mobilization. Not only will you be required to work at a strategic level and manage future pipeline, your strong leadership and mentoring skills will be used to support and guide project managers to deliver their respective projects and act as the first point of escalation. Key responsibilities include:
Provide operational excellence in managing Defence Delivery portfolio of projects ensuring project assurance, governance and risk management including compliance with project portfolio management requirements. Manage/maintain engaging business relationships to develop a deep understanding of business problems and work closely with the Strategy & Architecture leader to determine the technology capability need and translate to pipeline initiatives and future projects for delivery. Support, mentor and guide Project Managers to ensure that projects follow the LCM project framework, provide timely status reporting and adhere to scope, budget, schedule and resource management. Establish a portfolio governance for various lines of business, drive project initiatives, future planning including prioritization of projects,
alignment to business strategy plans and resource management. Involved in Project estimation (both at a project phase and end-to-end project), considering resource requirements (effort & duration), hardware, software, and cost estimates associated with risk, assumptions and dependencies. Develop a DDC demand and resource profile for Defence Delivery projects and work closely with the Digital Portfolio Delivery team to manage resource contention and methods for addressing resource gaps. Collaboration with Project Portfolio Management to ensure efficiency and optimisation of the governance across the business including consideration of LCM, financial management and strategic alignment when performing resource management. About YOU
Significant relevant experience in portfolio management, senior ICT management including overseeing a diverse portfolio of projects in the area of infrastructure, software development, application development and new systems. Deep knowledge and understanding of ICT industry trends, ways of working with an ability to translate business-led technology roadmaps and convert them into projects and initiatives. Strategic thinker and problem solver, able to make complex judgements, decisions and provide recommendations to address barriers to successful outcomes. Strong communicator coupled with experience working in an IT matrixed environment and using virtual technical teams to deliver projects.
An ability to negotiate and influence stakeholders at all levels coupled with an understanding and challenging existing ways-of-working to enable innovative working style and successful outcomes. Lateral thinker, strong collaborator with an ability to navigate the areas of greyness with funding and resourcing and proactively come up with solutions. Whilst not essential, degree qualification in ICT, project management or another relevant discipline will be highly regarded.
