The Team
The Project Officers work in the NSW CBD State Office, as part of the Business Operations team, to support a geographically disperse network across NSW and ACT.
Business Operations is responsible for a number of key tasks critical to the delivery of a federal election. The team works together to achieve high quality outcomes in tight timeframes.
They are a cohesive and high performing team that has a significant focus on effective communication with other business areas across the AEC to achieve key objectives. This includes National Office, other state and territory offices and the divisional network across NSW/ACT.
The Opportunities
The Project Officers assist in the day-to-day management of matters relating to the corporate governance and election readiness functions of the NSW/ACT state office.
These are agile positions that assist with a range of responsibilities including data analysis, communication, procurement, and logistics coordination.
During an electoral event, the officers will support the delivery of state office election projects as required.
The Project Officer needs to be flexible, organised, goal-oriented, able to clearly communicate results and focused on delivering high quality outcomes within strict timeframes.
To excel you’ll have:
- Demonstrated the ability to provide administrative support, assist in project planning and execution, managing tasks and priorities while conducting research and analysis for reporting.
- An ability to remain positive and respond to increased levels of pressure in a calm manner, while achieving goals within tight timeframes and responding to competing and changing priorities.
- An ability to leverage your functional expertise to contribute to team goals, while also providing well-researched advice and support to senior staff.
- A demonstrated ability to maintain key internal and external relationships, including liaising with stakeholders on project or operational issues, and responding to stakeholder needs and expectations.
Additionally, to excel as an APS4 you’ll have:
- Experience in project management activities, including managing resources, budgets, and reporting, while ensuring project tasks are delivered on time and meet the needs of the end user.
- A proven ability to exercise independence in decision-making and accountability for outcomes, often overseeing the work of support staff.
Desirable
- Familiarity with legislative and regulatory frameworks and requirements,
including the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act and Commonwealth Electoral Act.
- Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills
- Drivers Licence
Eligibility
- AEC employees must be Australian citizens.
- Any person who is, and seen to be active in political affairs, and intends to publicly carry on this activity, may compromise the strict neutrality of the AEC and cannot be considered.
- Applicants are required to consent to, undergo, obtain and maintain a character clearance.

obtain and maintain the security clearance required for this role.
