Department of Education VIC
Elwood
Location Profile
Elwood College is a co-educational secondary college situated in the heart of the leafy, seaside suburb of Elwood. We offer our students a strong academic grounding in all areas of the curriculum as well as enhancement activities to develop and extend their skills and interests. Elwood College has a dedicated and professional team of teachers and support staff who work in teams to provide a comprehensive and challenging education in a happy and caring learning environment. An emphasis is placed on building strong professional relationships between students and staff.
Our cultural diversity is one of our greatest assets.
Our cosmopolitan population is further enhanced by our highly successful International Student Program. Students are provided with rich and rewarding opportunities to learn from each other, appreciating similarities and respecting difference and understand the power of unity. Students are taught to respect others and to contribute to the creation of a harmonious and caring learning community
Elwood College has an emphasis on excellence in teaching and learning. Students have opportunities for personal growth through involvement in a wide range of extra curricula programs and a broad range of student leadership opportunities. Inter - House competitions, a full sports program, local and international school ‘camps’, public speaking and debating, instrumental music, choir and student performances ensure students become involved in learning above and beyond the classroom.
A strong and motivated Student Representative Council ensures that student voice is heard. In addition to being an active subcommittee of school council the SRC hosts a number of events each year,
including a wonderful Student Talent Show.
Curriculum is designed to allow all students to participate in a wide range of purposeful learning experiences. Its structure ensures that students can build on their achievements and plan for the development of specialised skills in later years.
Elwood College provides a comprehensive, challenging, academic and technically enhanced curriculum. A strong work ethic is expected from all students. Positive work habits are encouraged from Year 7 to best prepare students for their VCE years and thereby maximise students' tertiary education options. Students are expected to grow into independent learners and to seek the support they need to be successful.
Elwood College identifies and supports accelerated learning for those students of high intellectual potential - individual and small group tuition programs are becoming central to our developing learning programs. A VCE early entry program at Year 10 is strongly encouraged for those students identified as ready to step up. In addition to undertaking VCE many students take up a Vocational Education and Training (VET) subject at Year 11.
Our learning focus is based on the construction and delivery of consistent and documented curriculum, a rigorous assessment program and the delivery of high quality learning and teaching programs (from Years 7 to 12) through best practise pedagogy and the utilisation of technology.
With the recent completion of our building program students and staff learn and teach in a sophisticated,
technologically well-equipped environment to meet the 21st century educational needs of teachers and students.
Selection Criteria
The school must enter Selection Criteria as developed by the school for Education Support positions at this level and range. Delete this statement as part of that process.
Role
[Attendance requirement for this position]
Range 3 is distinguished by the introduction of management responsibility and accountability for the delivery of professional support services. The role will usually impact beyond the work area or professional field. It seeks to gain cooperation of other staff members or members of the school community to achieve specific objectives, such as in school administration, operations or educational programs.
Direction on targets and goals is provided but the position will have some degree of latitude in determining how they are achieved. This latitude will generally be limited by standard procedures and school policy. Deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.
The provision of business management responsibilities becomes a feature at range 3. Management of staff to achieve the expected outcomes is a key responsibility. Staff management issues will be resolved with minimal reference to senior management, although guidance will be required in more complex cases. Senior management will be provided with timely reports and advice,
although this will generally be confined to matters relating to the immediate work area, service provision or educational program and is unlikely to impact substantially on whole of school operations.
This is the minimum range for positions that carry a mandatory qualification requirement of not less than four years. Professional student support positions become a feature at range 3 (e.g. therapists, psychologists) where standard professional services are delivered. Professional support and guidance will be close at hand and deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students,
but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee¿s position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
Responsibilities
- Manage the design and production of school publications and documents.
- Provide professional student support services, e.g. therapist and psychological and counselling services.
- Provide strategic advice on specific support services and their impact on students, school curriculum and services.
- Manage the use of and access to school resource and reference material.
