The position is to cover maternity leave for 12 months, with the possibility of extension, and will be based at Liverpool Hospital.
This unique position sits within a speciality Physical Health Service, part of the SWSLHD Mental Health Service, providing clinical care to community and inpatient mental health consumers in Liverpool and Fairfield. This position plays a central role in supporting the physical health needs of mental health consumers by providing exercise interventions that assist in managing and preventing chronic and complex medical conditions, with a strong focus on cardiometabolic outcomes. We are looking for an independent Exercise Physiologist, with strong clinical and advocacy skills, with specialist knowledge in mental health, who is passionate about promoting physical activity to consumers and clinicians. The role is integrated into a multidisciplinary service that involves CNC, Dietitian, Peer Support Worker, Clinical Support Officer and General Practitioners, and will contribute to the development and implementation of physical health interventions for the Liverpool/Fairfield Community Mental Health Services. The preferred candidate will be able to manage their caseload independently,
working flexibility across inpatient and community sites and be expected to provide student supervision. The position is expected to be based at Fairfield Community Mental Health Centre once a month, and otherwise be based at Liverpool Hospital. The preferred candidate will receive monthly individual supervision in addition to being connected EPs working in other clinical areas. What You'll be Doing This position will be responsible for providing tailored lifestyle interventions, including assessments and interventions, to mental health consumers across Liverpool and Fairfield LGAs in South Western Sydney LHD. The position will involve managing individual consumers, developing lifestyle and exercise group programs, providing education for consumers and families/carers,
in addition to assisting with staff education, collaborating with referral partners and supervising students. Recognised tertiary qualification in Exercise Physiology and full membership of Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA). Extensive demonstrated and relevant clinical experience including best practice knowledge in physical health and lifestyle issues specific to mental health and experience in managing complex caseloads. Experience in service development and quality improvement and ability to inform development and implementation of lifestyle and exercise services. Experience working collaboratively with individuals and carers, including liaising with external providers.
Demonstrated commitment to continued professional development and evidence based practice. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of the team. Demonstrated ability in clinical supervision of students and/or staff. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to use Microsoft office applications Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2).
