SLHD has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic Undergraduate Assistant in Nursing to join our Mental Health Team!
Location
SLHD Mental Health Service is committed to improving mental health for people and our communities by providing quality mental health services in partnership with consumers, families and service providers by providing quality healthcare, delivery of safe appropriate care, ensuring access to services, supporting our workforce, and working closely with the local community to manage the changing demand for services.
You will be based at Concord Centre for Mental Health, Concord Repatriation General Hospital or the Professor Marie Bashir Centre based at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
Role
Mental Health Services are seeking undergraduate nursing students, who are currently enrolled in an Undergraduate Nursing Degree and have successfully completed 18 months of the nursing program.
In addition to the selection criteria applicants must be able to meet the following requirements:
- Have completed and passed the mental health component of the program and demonstrate a satisfactory academic record.
- Be available for two weeks to undertake Mental Health specific education, training and orientation.
- Have a minimum of 12 months remaining in their undergraduate nursing programme.
- Have availability to work a rotating roster with a minimum of 2 – 3 shifts a fortnight (exceptions when undertaking clinical placements).
- Be available to work across two SLHD Mental Health inpatient facilities which are; the Concord Centre for Mental Health based at the Concord Repatriation General Hospital or the Professor Marie Bashir Centre based at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Camperdown.
An Assistant in Nursing (AIN) works within a nursing plan of care under the supervision and direction of the Registered Nurse (RN) and within the limits of the AIN position description and local policy and protocol.

Ideal candidate
- Holds HLT33115 Certificate III in Health Services Assistance (Assisting in Nursing Work in Acute Care); or currently enrolled as a Nursing Student (with successful completion of at least two semesters) and previous experience working in an acute care facility.
Demonstrates interpersonal,
written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
