A vacancy exists in the above unit for a highly motivated Aboriginal Health Worker (AHW) – non-graduate, to engage with and support people experiencing or at risk of homelessness who identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander.
Working within a harm minimisation strengths-based framework, the AHW will support people experiencing or at risk of homelessness that identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander to access mainstream health services of their choice. The AHW will work closely with the Homeless Health Service staff in an outreach capacity to ensure culturally respectful and safe care will be provided to people experiencing or at risk of homelessness who identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander. The AHW will have an important role in advocacy on behalf of their clients and will Develop and maintain effective networks with both internal and external stakeholders . The AHW will assist in the development, implementation and evaluation of health promotion and health education initiatives undertaken by the Homeless Health Service.
The position is full-time, working 8:00 am – 4:30 pm weekdays with occasional early starts. Maximum -term until 30/06/2021 with the possibility of extending the contract.

- Demonstrated cultural awareness and understanding of people who identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and how to engage and support people to access mainstream health services.
- Demonstrated awareness of the issues that face people experiencing or at risk of homelessness who identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and within the interdisciplinary team and demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development
- Demonstrated computer literacy with email and an electronic patient record system
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
- Current Drivers Licence.
